The only “Blue Rapids” in America is located at the junction of the Big Blue and Little Blue Rivers. While not a large community, we do come with many things to see and do while you are in the area! Most notably, our history, which spans from the Ice Age to the Oregon trail, attracts visitors to the Alcove Spring and the Ice Age Monument! For those who want a complete tour of the local history, then be sure also to visit the Historic Baseball Site and the Holm Cabin. We also host many events during the year, including the Marshall County Fair, a Veteran’s Day Parade, Czech Day, a Lighted Christmas Parade, and Voices of the Past Cemetery Tour!
In its early days, several factories and mills were built to take advantage of the abundant water power. The “Round Town Square” was once featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not. In an effort to avoid the common “straight arrow” street grid, the town founders platted a circle in the center, giving Blue Rapids the only round town square in Kansas. Blue Rapids has a population of 1,019 and is located on US Highway. 77 & 9, approximately 12 miles South of Marysville, the county seat.
